When it comes to winter season, Canada is known for its harsh weather. However, people from Toronto - a fashion capital city of Canada - stylishly brave the cold when the temperature drops outside.
Antonio To, 21
Antonio To is a 21-years-old student at University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Ont. He used to wear classy and elegant clothes back in Hong Kong, China. Once he came to Waterloo, he switched to sportswear and adapted to a local style by wearing sweatpants with hoodies. “I also have noticed I started to like old-fashioned and vintage clothes while I am here, ” To adds. His favourite store is Armani. According to To, a must have item for this winter is Canadian Goose coat.
Noelia Martinez, 24
Noelia Martinez is a 24-years-old Torontonian, who studies at George Brown College in Toronto, Ont. She finds it hard to stick to only one style. She prefers a rule ‘I wear what I want’ and her way of dressing depends on her mood. She plays with her clothing and if she likes something, she will wear it no matter what. “Toronto is one of the most fashion cities in the world. If someone has a unique style I am able to see it on the streets here,” Martinez says. She gets her fashion inspirations from unnamed boutiques, H&M, and Forever 21. Her must have item is a nice scarf to keep her warm during winter.
Claire Daniel, 20
Claire Daniel is a 20-years-old girl from Paris, France. Currently, she studies at Nipissing University in North Bay, Ont. She admits she used to wear elegant and fashionable clothes back in Paris, but when she came to North Bay she completely lost her sense of style. “I don’t wear skirts to school anymore. At my university, everyone wears socks with sandals, which is unacceptable in France,” Daniel says. She also admits that she does not like her clothes now, but she wears them because they are warm. In North Bay, she started wearing socks over pants, which she has never done before. She enjoys shopping at Zara, H&M and Forever 21. Daniel recommends a warm coat from Canadian Goose or The North Face.
Cassy Roberts, 19
Cassy Roberts is a 19-years-old fashion communication student at Ryerson University in Toronto, Ont. She is amazed how huge variety of clothes she sees on people on the streets here that she would not see in her hometown Stouffville, Ont. Two major things have been changed in her style since she moved to Toronto. First, she developed almost minimalistic style with darker and whiter tones instead of bright colours. Second, she started wearing pants that are different than sport leggings. Her favourite stores to shops are Zara, Aritzia and Topshop. “An item for this winter season is a good pair of boots. Personally, I recommend Hunters, which are fantastic and my feet are never wet,” Roberts says.
