These discounts can make your life a little easier at the register

With food prices increasing across Canada, it’s necessary now more than ever before to discover that several grocery stores, restaurants and cafes offer special student discounts.
Grocery shopping, or even just going out for a meal, can be a financial burden. This past summer, Statistics Canada reported that “prices for food purchased from stores” have increased at the fastest rate since August 1981, spiking at an increase of 10.8 per cent in August.
Compounding inflation with other student costs such as housing and tuition makes discounts all the more valuable for students. Here are some of the places that offer student discounts on food.
Metro
Participating Metro stores offer a 10 per cent student discount on select days. This discount is only available at certain Ontario locations such as Barrie, Guelph, Hamilton, Ottawa, Toronto and Windsor. The student discount is available every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and to qualify, you must show your post-secondary student ID during your purchase.
Bulk Barn
Looking for a sweet or salty snack? Bulk Barns across Canada offer a 15 per cent student discount every Wednesday. This discount applies to high school, college and university students across all Canadian locations. Just bring your student ID to qualify for the discount.
Food Basics
Food Basics offers a 10 per cent student discount on groceries on Tuesdays at participating stores. The discount only applies to stores outside of the Greater Toronto Area – Guelph, Kingston, Hamilton, London and Windsor. If you go to school in these areas, make sure you ask for the student discount!
Longos
Longos offers $15 off an order of $100 or more when you get your order delivered by Grocery Gateway. However, this promotion is only available with an SPC card at participating locations in Ontario.
Pizza Hut
At participating locations across Canada, Pizza Hut offers 10 per cent off regular-priced items if you are a student with an SPC card.
